The vibration of strings produce soft and passionate sounds. The sounds that are produced from stringed instruments depend on the tension, material, and length of the string as well as the resonance, created within the body of the instrument itself. In addition, strings can be played in a variety of different ways resulting in different timbres. For instance, the strings on a piano are hammered; whereas other strings are plucked or rubbed with a bow. Playing a string instrument benefits students physically, mentally, academically and socially. Significant improvements include better posture and hand dexterity, enhanced self-discipline and lower stress levels, increased attention spans and memory abilities, and teamwork skills are built for those students who participate in orchestral activities.
