Elizabeth LaCoste

Elizabeth LaCoste is a freelance flutist and private teacher based in Los Angeles, CA. She has appeared as principal flutist in True Brass Choir’s Les Vents Wind Ensemble premiering Casey Martin’s work Strange Dreams and Lullabies. She is currently on the sub-list for the American Youth Symphony, one of the premier youth orchestras for emerging professional musicians on the West Coast. Recently, she has performed with the Orange County Youth Symphony Orchestra as acting principal flutist in their concert series for fifth graders at Segerstrom Concert Hall. Elizabeth is an ardent teacher in the Southern California region, teaching at East Whittier Middle School, Artesia High School, and being the active flute coach for Wildwood Summer Music Camp, as well as maintaining her own private teaching studio.

Elizabeth attended California State University Long Beach as a Bob Cole Conservatory Music Scholarship recipient, where she graduated cum laude with her Bachelor’s degree in flute performance under the direction of John Barcellona. Her other primary teachers include Rena Urso, Darrin Thaves, Jim Walker, and Diana Morgan. Elizabeth received the Bob Cole Conservatory Woodwind Department Area Reward as a senior, naming her as one of the most valuable musicians in the conservatory. As a sophomore, she was named winner of the California State University Long Beach Concerto Competition, with duet partner Kelly Catlin, where she performed Franz Doppler’s Concerto in D minor for Two Flutes and Orchestra accompanied by the Bob Cole Conservatory Symphony Orchestra. Elizabeth was principal flutist and section member of the California State University Long Beach Wind Symphony where she participated in the Jeju International Wind Ensemble Festival in Seoul, South Korea as well as performing at the American Band Master’s Association at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Elizabeth was principal flutist of the CSULB Symphony Orchestra during her undergraduate studies where she performed major symphonic works as well as performing in the CSULB Opera Orchestra for the CSULB Opera Institute’s production of Bedrich Smetana’s The Bartered Bride. She has performed for many famous flutists in masterclass settings, such as Elise Henry, Jim Walker, Heather Clarke, and Leone Buyse. Elizabeth is also a member of Sigma Alpha Iota.
