The classical study of music goes beyond simple instrumental performance, and introduces the musician to rigorous training in classical techniques, theory, harmony, composition, and history. As the saying goes, “Know the rules, so you know how to break them properly”. Classical training offers you the rules to making music so you will have background and reasoning for your future musical choices. Most famously, researchers in 1993 published a study drawing a link between the classical scholarship of music (in this case the works of Mozart), and heightened IQ scores. Additionally, the listening to and classical analysis of music can have such health benefits as lowering blood pressure, pain relief, heightened emotional response and has even been shown to lessen the symptoms associated with epilepsy.
